Contract Service

Providing pre-planned visits to offer ongoing support, we can become an
extension of your team. This is ideal for case management.

Ad-hoc Service

Perhaps supplementing an existing support service or complimenting your overall health and safety management. You bring us in when you need us. Examples include pre-employment health screening, health surveillance, display screen equipment (DSE) assessments, disability assessments, or risk assessments for new and expectant mothers.

Consultancy Service

For specific projects, cases, training or general occupational health advice. Ideal for policy development work, stress managements or health promotion initiatives.

Pre-employment Health Screening

Pre employment health screeningPre-employment health screening is a valuable business tool as it reduces the risk of workplace ill health and so improves attendance and productivity. In some work situations it is important that prospective employees fulfill certain medical criteria before they can be considered suitable for a post e.g. Fork lift truck drivers.

Pre employment health screeningThe process generally involves completion of a prepared questionnaire, generated to fit a company's needs, which can be carried out remotely. In a minority of cases it will be necessary for an individual to undergo a face to face meeting with an Occupational Health Nurse or Occupational Health Physician to establish the extent of any declared medical conditions. Following each pre-employment assessment the company will be sent a report stating whether the prospective employee is fit for their proposed position.

The pre-employment process complies with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and advice can be offered on how to modify work situations for employees who have existing disabilities.

Occupational Health Risk Assessments

Markham Medical is able to carry out many health risk assessments including:

  • New and Expectant Mother health risks.
  • First Aid.
  • Manual Handling.
  • Display Screen Equipment, including work related Upper Limb Disorders.
  • Stress.

These assessments are usually carried out on work premises, looking at the work activity in detail, using your own risk assessments or those provided by Markham Medical.

Health Surveillance and Fitness to Work Medicals

Health surveillance is appropriate health screening to detect any early signs of work-related ill health amongst the workforce exposed to certain health risks and acting on the results. Fitness to work medicals are to ensure employees are fit to undertake certain aspects of work which carry a risk.

We provide technical support and interpretation of the following:

  • Audiograms Respiratory Sensitiser Medicals.
  • Fork lift truck medicals.
  • Food handler assessments.
  • Confined space medicals.
  • Lead worker assessment.
  • Asbestos worker assessments.
  • Railtrack Medicals.

We can also carry out a health needs assessment to identify company requirements based on an employee's exposure in the workplace. This can be a stand alone piece of work or in conjunction with a full health surveillance programme.
The assessments can be carried out on company premises using your own fully calibrated and serviced equipment, or at alternative premises using our own equipment.

Drug and Alcohol Screening

Drug and alcohol services would be available for pre-employment, for cause and random testing, dependent on the client’s needs. The preferred system used would be the Cozart non-invasive oral fluid system, giving rapid results on site. ( http://www.cozart.co.uk)  However other methods can be used if required.

Absences Case Management

Absence case management is the link between a health issue, performance and the job. Based on the medical details we receive and a detailed assessment of the job, we will carry out a full functional capability assessment. A report is then sent to the company providing clear information to enable them to manage the performance of the individual.
It is also possible to carry out a trend analysis of absence to assist you to be pro-active.

The consultations can be carried out on-site or by telephone, once consent is gained from the individual employee concerned. Markham Medical can assist by supplying any necessary documents and walking managers through the process of:

  • Policy Formation.
  • Stress Management.

We offer support for companies in many ways:

  • Auditing and Policy Development.
  • Helping a company identify the causes of stress and assisting with organisational interventions as a preventative approach to stress.

A policy is an ideal tool to help manage stress at work and can be used to raise awareness of the topic.

Stress Management Training

Stress management training is useful to raise awareness of stress in the workplace and also to help individuals to identify thoughts, behaviour and reactions to pressure and how best to deal with them. Training on legal requirements for anyone managing employees is also important in today's climate of litigation.

Physiotherapy
